Linda Baer

Linda Baer is a Swiss graphic designer who is a self-described lover of “remoteness, high mountains and vast deserts – adventures away from the tourism industry.” In 2015, she set out on her bike, eventually spending 20 months cycling about 22,000 km (13,670 miles) through 20 countries. Traveling south from Switzerland, she rode through Italy, the Balkans and Greece, continued through Turkey, and into the Caucasus, stopping in Kyrgyzstan. From there, she flew to, and then biked through, Southeast Asia before flying to New Zealand for a tour of both islands. Next came Australia, which she rode from south to north before flying to northern India for more cycling. She then flew back to Kyrgyzstan, where she switched from her bike to a van for the trip home to Switzerland. “I wanted to see and explore the world without any final destination in mind,” she says, “and to take enough time to learn about places and people, and simply travel slowly.” She and a friend had planned to travel together for the first six months, so Linda chose to use a sand colored Nallo 2 GT. “It provided the right amount of space for two people with 10 bicycle panniers between us,” she says, “while still being light enough – as well as very roomy – for solo use.” She needed a tent that was strong and reliable, and would last through a long period of heavy use in remote areas. “The Nallo 2 GT fulfilled this in storms, snowfall, heat and heavy wind,” she says, “while the inner tent, pitched on its own in desert areas, protected me from bugs, snakes and other animals while still offering ventilation. The large vestibule worked as a shelter for cozy group dinners with other travelers in bad weather,” she continues, “and the sand color blended in perfectly with most surroundings, and made the inside nice and bright on winter days and during bad weather.” (For more, see lindaontour.com)
Note: For trips like Linda’s, we usually recommend Black Label tents, such as the Nammatj GT, because they are better suited to long trips and hard use. Linda took exceptional care of her tent, and especially of her zippers, to make sure that her Nallo 2 GT functioned well for her trip.
